Haregewoin Taferra

Without support from her own government, Haregewoin Teferra took the mission of rescuing HIV/AIDS infected children upon herself. She rescued abandoned children from the forests where they were dumped by their parents and found the means to nourish them, thus enabling them to carry on with their lives. Through donations of money, medications, and proper foods, this lone warrior saved the lives of many children.

The Children for Peace ONLUS raised funds for Haregewoin to enable her to carry on with her loving work for these children. Haregewoin Teferra left us 0n March 17, 2009, but her work continues through her daughter. She will be dearly missed.

Haregewoin's name has been submitted by The Children for Peace to the Ethiopia National Review for the "2009 Person of the Year." This was our statement in the submission: The Children for Peace (ONLUS), a non-profit association, nominates Haregewoin Teferra. Without her own government's help, she fought tirelessly for HIV/AIDS orphans in Ethiopia. She has been neglected and rightful recognition in her own country has been missing for too long. She has earned the recognition and it is unfortunate this nomination has to be made after she has passed away. She was a lone warrior and truly fought the war against HIV/AIDS, particularly for the children of Ethiopia. Join the rest of the international community and recognize her for what she accomplished. Thank you. The Children for Peace (ONLUS) November 24th, 2009 at 6:18 am

Ramallah Youth Center

This fledgling organization in the Palestinian Occupied Territories is a project we proudly help fund. This center is training men and women in the skills of entrepreneurship. Enabling these skills to be acquired signifies the positive thrust by Palestinians to rebuild the infrastructure of their land and aid in the economic recovery for their fellow citizens.

We are also proud of these men and women who will be assisting children in the refugee camps in the Territories. We provide grants to this youth center so they are able to continue the training they provide and to assist them in acquiring the materials needed for the mentoring program.

The president of The Children for Peace will be in Ramallah in January 2010 to follow-up on the activities in the center as well as to travel to the camps to observe the program. She is dedicated to these children and sees their needs. It is her hope and dream to see these children freed from these camps and able to live a happy, safe, and fulfilling life. The conditions under which these children live is unacceptable by anyone's standards. Change is needed and we are helping the create the change.

Stefano Guindani

Stefano Guindani is a reknown photographer who donated two photographs for the auction at the 2009 gala in Rome. The proceeds of the auction go to a charity he has chosen that provides aid to the disadvantaged children in Haiti. One of the photographs was signed by the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere. The other was signed by Sophia Loren.

We are pleased that The Children for Peace (ONLUS) was able to work with Mr. Guindani to forward his cause in Haiti. He is a dedicated advocate for children's causes and his photographic art has been a means for these children to benefit.
